Summer Camps

Summer camps

The DNA Learning Center is pleased to offer our fourth year of summer camp programing for 2018! We offer residential camps, allowing students to live in Notre Dame dorms throughout the week, as well as day camps for local students, and two-day workshops for younger students.  This year we have added a half-day workshop for high school students!

Residential Camps - $1360

This is a one-week long camp from Sunday at 4pm - Friday at 1pm. This overnight camp allows students to experience dorm life in one of the residential dorms on the University of Notre Dame campus (double occupancy with gender-matched roommate). A typical day will include meals at the South Dining Hall and the chance to participate in many activities throughout campus. Students will be supervised at all times by current Notre Dame students serving as camp counselors throughout the week! Tuition includes housing, all meals, lab supplies, and a keepsake t-shirt.

Day Camps – $635

This is a one-week camp from Monday – Friday from 9:30am to 3:30pm (Friday will end at 1pm). This is a popular camp for local students who have evening commitments! Tuition includes daily lunch, all lab supplies, and a keepsake t-shirt.

Both residential and day camps include numerous experiments for the students including genotyping of themselves for interesting traits (such as a specific taste receptor and muscle twitchy-ness), genetically testing food to see if it was genetically modified (GMO), plus many more! All experiments will be explained at the level of the students by a Notre Dame Faculty member and assisted by our camp counselors who are all current Notre Dame students with educational backgrounds in science.

Camps will be focused on students who will be entering 8th and 9th grade in the 2018/2019 academic year, however, students who will be entering 10th and 11th grade may contact us for placement as well.

DNA Workshop - $65

The beginner workshop is for students who will be entering 6th and 7th grade in the 2018/2019 academic year.  Camp takes place over two days. This workshop contains an introduction to lab experiments.  They will learn how to isolate and actually see their own DNA, plus more!  Tuition includes, all lab supplies, and a keepsake t-shirt.

Human Genetics High School Workshop - $65

The Human Genetics High School Workshop is for all high school students.  This will be an advanced workshop focused on experiments with their own DNA. Skills learned will include electrophoresis, PCR, DNA extraction, and more.  Tuition includes, all lab supplies, and a keepsake t-shirt.

All camps take place at the DNA Learning Center Lab located in the Jordan Hall of Science on the Campus of the University of Notre Dame.  Residential camps are limited to 24 participants, the day camp is limited to 32 participants, and each workshop offered will be limited to 32 participants.
